TrueCrypt

 

The so-called “on-the-fly” encryption, is a method for encrypting and decrypting the files in RAM memory and only when them are used, as a result all the files on your encrypted partition or drive are permanently encrypted with an algorithm at your choice : AES-256, Serpent or Twofish. Can be used for any partition on your hard disk or for a storage device like an USB flash drive. It can creates a hidden volume or hidden Operating System that nobody knows it exists on your hard disk, it is created in the free space within another TrueCrypt volume for example but without modify the information about the free space available in your computer. The hidden volume protection can be activated only by users who supply the correct password (and/or keyfiles) for the hidden volume (each time they mount the outer volume) Real nice, see here !

 

 

Parallelization, a technology used by TrueCrypt ensures that by using a multi-core processor the program will use all of the cores (or processors) in parallel for encryption and decryption. For each core it is assigned a small piece of data for encryption or decryption, so by using for example a CPU with two cores, two different piece of data are processed in the same time with a double speed like a single core CPU. As a result, encryption or decryption speed is directly proportional to the number of cores of the CPU.

Pipelining or “asynchronous processing” technology, allows data to be read from and written to an encrypted drive as fast as if the drive was not encrypted.

Must be mentioned that this program only prevent stealing or unauthorised revealing of your sensitive data and it’s not an AntiMalware or something like that. Using this program in an infected computer is not recommended.

AxCrypt is free and easy to use open source strong file encryption for Windows all vesions including Windows 7 32 and 64 bits, integrated in Context Menu (Right click menu) it does not start a setarate program. It provides AES-128 encryption. No configuration is necessary for AxCrypt. Download, run the installer, and AxCrypt is ready to use.

To encrypt a file, right-click it in Windows Explorer, select ‘AxCrypt | Encrypt’ and enter a passphrase plus the path to an optional strong key file.

To edit or view an encrypted file – just double-click it.

To decrypt, right-click and select ‘AxCrypt | Decrypt’ instead, and enter the correct pass phrase plus the path to the correct key file, if used.

AxCrypt is used to share and work with stored documents, and e-mail attachments, in a secure way.

If your documents reside on a document sharing service, intranet or file server AxCrypt is especially well suited and will usually seamlessly integrate, and make sharing and storing sensitive data as easy as not protecting it.

To send secure e-mail, agree on a pass phrase and ensure that all parties have AxCrypt, then send your encrypted files as regular attachments. With the pass phrase cache and the double-click edit feature even many turns over e-mail is as easy as without encryption.
